The first ever dedicated pre-apprenticeship bespoke tailoring course.

This is an entry level practical training course. Being intrinsically connected to our trade, we have our finger on the pulse for job requirements throughout the industry as they shift and change. Via this course you will be equipped with making, drafting and cutting skills, cloth knowledge and an understanding of how to behave and flourish in a busy bespoke tailoring business.

 

COURSE DETAILS

 

Course: PRE-Apprenticeship Bespoke Tailoring (3 Month - Daytime

Start Date: 16TH JANUARY 2025

Weekly Schedule: Thursday - Saturday / Friday independent practice

Times: 10:00 – 16:00

Fee: £2200 (+ VAT) Payment plan available - to be confirmed at time of application. 

Course Content

You will begin by learning the absolutely beginners basics. Quickly after we will move you on to practice with actual garments. You will be taught how to make a coat, trouser and vest bast if there is time. You will also be taught how to draft these, including how to take a set of bespoke measures. Along the way we will also be educating you fully on the materials you use, from a well renowned British weaver!

All materials are provided on this course.

Ideal Learning outcome

Following this course, you should expect to know the fundamentals of beginners bespoke tailoring - & more! We aim to place students in work-experience directly following this course, but wouldn’t it be brilliant if you did well enough to go straight into an apprenticeship! This course will give you all of the tools you need to do so.

How do we ensure our training is truely of industry standard

We work closely with our colleagues in the trade to ensure that our tuition continually meets not only the highest standard of traditional tailoring methods, but that our students are taught the specific skills required of any new apprentice which can vary from house to house.

Progression

Upon course completion it will be of the upmost importance that you continue to focus on practicing your new skills, you will quickly understand why we strongly emphasise repetition in order to refine, improve then master as an artisan of your craft.

If your goal is to become a bespoke tailoring apprentice, we will do our best to assist you in finding a place that is mutually suitable for you and the company involved.

Your progression past training doesn’t necessarily have to be within our very niche trade, the skills, and techniques you will learn on this course are transferable to many other garment production roles in areas such as costume & couture.

Aiding your progression from this course, you will be equipped with the following tools upon leaving – please note quantity & range of practical samples will rely solely on your individual capability:

 

  • A full PRE-Apprenticeship portfolio.

  • A portfolio of work including:

    • A body of bespoke making notes.

    • A body of bespoke drafting and cutting notes.

    • A plain baste sample of;

      • a coat (jacket/blazer)

      • a vest (waistcoat)

      • a pair of trousers

    • Various Pocket samples.

    • Samples of all stitches.

    • The London Academy of Bespoke ‘PRE-Apprenticeship Bespoke Tailoring’ Certificate.

Entry Requirements

This course welcome complete beginners - please be explicit about your experience in garment making when you apply, if you have any.

We would however like each student to have practiced using their tailors thimble - which we are happy to assist with in advance of you starting your course.
